Firenze:Torre della Pagliuzza

Fra le vie del centro,in prossimità del Duomo vi si trova una piazzetta,adesso un pò piu' cosciuta per l'Hotel...è piazza della pagliuzza..
Vi si trova una torre a pianta circolare,sembra di origine bizantina,quando i soldati greci furono a Firenze contro i goti ,edificando su vecchi resti (piscina o vasca termale romana)la torre .Su questa torre ci sono diverse storie sulla sua origine. Sembra di origine longobarda adibita a carcere femminile ,ecco il nome pagliuzza di derivazione pagliericcio dove alle donne era data la possibilità di dormire in carcere su un pagliericcio.
Successivamente divenne il  campanile della chiesa di san Michele alle Trombe,poi abitazioni e magazzini e adesso albergo .Il complesso è stato restaurato dall'architettoI.Gamberini , facendo pulizia dell'edificio che copriva la splendida torre,trovò sotto la torre.
Recuperando la torre sono emersi le origini romane con i resti delle terme ,piatti e frammenti di epoca roman del primo secolo,ceramiche di montelupo.....

There is a circular tower, seems Byzantine in origin, when the Greek soldiers were in Florence against the Goths, by building on old ruins (Roman spa pool or hot) tower. Onthis tower there are several stories about its origin. It seems of Lombard female prison,here is the name derived from straw mattress where women were given the opportunity to sleep in jail on a pallet.
Later it became the church tower of St Michael the Trumpets, then houses and warehouses, and now hotel. The complex was restored dall'architettoI. Gamberini,cleaning up the building that covered the great tower, was under the tower.
Recovering the tower emerged the Roman origins with the remains of the baths, dishes and fragments dating from the Roman first century, pottery montelupo .....
